Independent marine surveyor matching
Marine surveys across Australia

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in Australia

Request an independent marine surveyor in Australia for a yacht, recreational boat or commercial-vessel assignment. State, yard, vessel use, lift access and long-distance travel determine the practical match; domestic commercial work may require an AMSA-accredited surveyor or recognised organisation.

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Australian survey locations

Plan the survey around Australia’s widely separated boating centres

Australia is not one travel market. Confirm the state, marina or yard, vessel use, lift capacity and whether the assignment is recreational, insurance-led or domestic commercial before a surveyor is approached.

New South Wales

Sydney Harbour · Pittwater · Newcastle · Port Stephens

A large brokerage and service market. Confirm yard access, lift limits, sea-trial route and whether any commercial-vessel accreditation is required.

Queensland

Gold Coast · Brisbane · Moreton Bay · Whitsundays · Cairns

Long coastal distances and tropical exposure make the exact base important. Identify cyclone or repair history and specialist access where relevant.

Find a surveyor in this region

Victoria & Tasmania

Melbourne · Geelong · Western Port · Hobart · Launceston

Seasonal weather and Bass Strait travel can affect attendance. Confirm launch status and whether a local or travelling specialist is practical.

Find a surveyor in this region

Western Australia

Perth · Fremantle · Mandurah · Geraldton

Western Australia is a separate travel market from the east coast. Yard booking, travel and report timing should be agreed before appointment.

Find a surveyor in this region

South Australia & Northern Territory

Adelaide · Port Lincoln · Darwin

Widely separated locations require early confirmation of surveyor availability, haul-out capability and any commercial-yard access procedures.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What details are needed for an Australian marine survey quote?

Provide the state, exact marina or yard, vessel particulars, construction, use, survey purpose and preferred date. Include lift, wash and sea-trial access plus any insurer, lender or commercial-vessel requirement.

When is an AMSA-accredited marine surveyor required?

Australian domestic commercial vessel certification and survey work can require an accredited marine surveyor or recognised organisation. Confirm the certificate, vessel category and permitted scope before appointment; this is separate from an ordinary recreational pre-purchase survey.

Can one surveyor cover different Australian states?

Some surveyors travel, but distances and travel cost can be substantial. Start with the correct state and then check vessel type, material, accreditation, availability and report-recipient requirements.

Are haul-out and sea-trial costs included?

Only if expressly included. Lift, pressure wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel, travel and specialist testing are normally separate arrangements.

Does professional membership guarantee report acceptance?

No. Membership, vessel competence, AMSA accreditation for an applicable commercial task and acceptance by an insurer or lender are separate checks.

Who appoints the surveyor?

The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees scope, fee, limitations, report use and terms. Australia Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include domestic commercial vessel work, new-build & alteration surveys, repair inspections, on-hire & off-hire surveys, electrical & machinery inspections, stability-related work, cargo & condition surveys, accident investigation. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
